Film consists of single frames. The very possibility of film is unrestricted recombination of the clips in lenght and succession, to creates space, plot and time. Time can be "real" like in "High noon", loop like in "Groundhog day" or totally collapse like in a commercial. The extend to which time can be manipulated has allways been the most facinating thing for me about film.
To bird-dog a situation to the fraction of a glance, that is what photography is about to me: to anticipate that very moment. When I'm taking pictures I become a "glance addict", I hunt the transitivety of nature. It enabbles me to reduce time down to a negative, a file. A brief note which allows me to reconstruct my perspective. The longer I take pictures in my lifetime, the more I understand the „epic“ nature of photographs. People cannot be seen detached from social cirumstances, society, the power of history, institutions, ideas, habits and religion. People don't follow a straight walk of life. The single frames contribute to an epic tableau, reflecting the state of the people living in it. Each picture adds a new fragment. Things happen consecutevly, the way people bead their lifes. These combined moments often leave me stunned. I then ask myself wether I really did see this. I'm specially interested in Israel and Germany, two countries I feel close to. Photographs can jump countries and go beyond surfaces.. I want to contribute to a culture of rememberence and reflect the ties of the two countries and take a close look at the people living there . Well, some part of myself succeeded in taking off these pictures from time. Kurt Tucholsky, wrote about this transitivity in his poem ("externe Links")Eyes in the big city(1930):"over, gone, never again."

Film erstellt eine Abfolge von Einzelbildern. Die eigentlich Möglichkeit des Films besteht darin, diese Einzelbildfolgen in beliebiger Länge und Reihenfolge zu kombinieren, um Raum, Handlung und Zeit zu "erzeugen". Es kann in einer Art "Echtzeit" erzählt werden wie in "High noon", Zeit kann zur Schlaufe werden wie im Film "Täglich grüßt das Murmeltier" oder völlig zusammenbrechen, wie in einer Werbung. Die Art und Weise wie Zeit erzählt werden kann hat mich an diesem Medium immer am meisten beeindruckt.
Das Folgen einer Situation zum Bruchteil eines Augenblickes, das ist Fotografie: Abzusehen, dass der eine Moment kommen wird. Wenn ich fotografiere bin ich diesem Moment verfallen, der flüchtigen Einzigartigkeit eines Blickes, einer Konstelation. Es ist eine Reduktion der Zeit auf ein Negativ, eine Datei. Eine kurze Notiz aus der ich später meine Perspektive wieder herstellen kann.
Dieser Moment setzt mich bei späterer Betrachtung häufig selbst in Staunen. Ich frage mich, was in mir diesen Moment gesehen hat? Irgend einem Bestandteil ist es gelungen, dieses eine Bild aus der Zeit heraus zu brechen. Kurt Tucholsky schrieb über dieses Gefühl in seinem Gedicht, ("externe Links")Augen in der Großstadt (1930): "... vorbei, verweht, nie wieder..."
